World Cup Retrospective: USA vs. Germany 2002

May 24, 2010

In what was arguably one of the USA’s best performances, USA vs. Germany showcased some new talent on the Yanks’ squad and showed the world how good we can be. It also left us with lots of ‘what ifs.’ Had the 50th minute handball on Germany been called, with a nearly guaranteed penalty kick scored, could we then have gone on to beat the Germans, and go on to probably best the South Koreans? That would have put us in the World Cup final with Brazil. The final – with Brazil! Who knows. It is a game of anguish.

That said, with our trademark grit and never-say-die determination, the US Men made us all proud to wave the flag in 2002. Here’s a recap.
